The morning Orioles wake usย
with their orange song and shakeย
the pear treeโs white blossoms.
Cool dawn glows pink on the neighborโs house
for five whole minutes and then goes whiteย
while I list the thousand ways I have been wronged,ย
blessed. Will I ever get up from this
warm bed and drink the morning thatโs been given me?
That our memory is not uselessย
becomes a sort of prayer โ
the lilacs will bloom again.ย
The song heard is fragrance as well as word.
