Beloved
We are lost to the dirt,
left drowning in accordion folders
and action plans,
gasping for breath amidst
the broken hearted and the profane.
And yet
the answer has always lay
with a tip of the chin, glasses gently
gliding down and eyes cast
heaven bound,
to dream of flight with Icarus
or carry the sun on our backs with Phaeton.
You have always been there
to remind us of our potential and our past,
but all too often the feel
of fingertip to thumb
returns us to the ground of our making,
separated forever by gravity.
