Unfrequented Whispers and Returns · Richard D. Houff

Dissolving into the forest,
there is a long silence

Thick foliage eclipses
both sun and stars

Shut off from the world
in this way, I am at peace

Waltzing with silhouette
and other shadows, I probe
hidden meanings from leaf and bark

Upon leaving, I follow a trail
of moss-covered rocks

As I approach the edge,
my steps become cautious:

unknown objects;
the human tragedy;
another day
