I Came So Close · Lane Scoggins

I came so close
To death
   Tying the noose-knot
   White knuckled, but resolute
Praying to God for it to end.

To love
   Tying the marital knot
   Swelling in my chest,
Praying to God for it to last.

To think that the same hands that held her
   Held the rope,
   Dropped the rope,
   Called my father.
Really puts things into perspective.

Lane Scoggins is a poet in Cookeville Tennessee. When he is not writing, he spends his time watercolor painting, playing ukulele, and reading novels. He attends Volunteer State College with a degree in computer science.
